Shadow blade technique 3.59/19/2023 I guess if you want Sudden Leap this isn't an issue since you have to suck it up anyway. The ONLY TC maneuver you can learn w/o knowing one already at level 1 is Wolf Fang Strike (Claw at the Moon and Rabid Wolf Strike of 2nd level later on can become entry points). Hunter's Sense is good, it only has 2 problems, IMO: 1) TC 1st level stances, unlike any other discipline, require a maneuver known. Just stick to standard action strikes and skirmish around the battlefield.įlame's Blessing is very meh early on, it comes into its own when it gives immunity ~level 16, before then it's alright, but far from a no-brainer choice. But I don't think you need it much if you're not going TWF style, either. It wouldn't be overpowered with full BAB. I would like to have one manoeuvre from each discipline (Mo9 in the making and in the RP) but I am not completely set on that. Wolf Fang Strike (Needed for Hunter's Sense, Although I don't really intend on being a TWF.) Moment of Perfect Mind or Sapphire Nightmare Blade (Main thing I am going for is long term usability.) Hunter's sense looks good for the same reason but Island of Blades is tempting, I just don't know how good it will be in the long term.įor manoeuvres, I would like your opinion on: Hunter's Sense, Flame's Blessing and Island of Blades.įlame's blessing is fairly a lock. As you can guess I loved Tome of Battle but it is a bit confusing on the first few reads.ġ) Would it be unbalancing for the Swordsage to have a High BAB? It's the one thing that really puzzles me on this class.Ģ) I would like some advice on initial stances and manoeuvres:įor my two stances, I am waffling between: My DM knew my love of anime so pointed me to a book that was released after I left D&D. Which says something about 3.5, no question, but ultimately the game pretty much is rocket tag.My game group recently returned to 3.5 and would like some advice on a new character I was making. So, basically, this is a way to pump damage, but it’s fairly inefficient. And they have fewer restrictions, so for example they can just be used on a full-attack and applied to each of your iterative attacks instead of just once. Any of these is likely to result in much higher amounts of damage than are four separate ability scores being added to damage. Power Attack doesn’t rely on ability scores at all, and can add twice one’s level to damage. Strength is added 1.5 times with no investment at all just from using a weapon in two hands, and there are ways to add it again. In contrast, it’s possible to add Charisma to damage 2-4 times. And the multiple ability dependency you’ve inflicted on yourself is quite burdensome. The levels of swordsage, of course, are quite good, and Shadow Hand stances are pretty solid, so that’s not all bad, but you’re still talking about a lot of effort. And even then, it only works when you use strikes of the appropriate discipline, which means most of the time you’re not full-attacking and applying those damage bonuses multiple times. Ultimately, this is a very costly exercise: you have to improve four different ability scores, you need three levels of swashbuckler and four of swordsage, and a feat that locks you in to a Shadow Hand stance. None of the bonuses are typed, and they come from different sources, so they stack. Short sword is light weapon preferred by Shadow Hand discipline.īuild with 3 levels of Swashbuckler and 4 levels of Swordsage (specialized in Shadow Hand discipline) looks valid.ĭoes that mean that when executing Shadow Hand strike, armed with short sword, with Shadow Hand stance active, this character deals 1d6+STR+DEX+INT+WIS damage (not counting possible additional damage from strike)? While you are in a Shadow Hand stance and attack with one of theĭiscipline’s preferred weapons, you can add your Dexterity modifier asĪ bonus on melee damage for attacks made with the weapon. There is also Shadow Blade feat from same book: Whenever you execute a strike from the chosen discipline. you can add your Wisdom modifier as a bonus on damage rolls Light weapon, as well as any other weapon that can be used with Weaponįinesse, such as a rapier, whip, or spiked chain.Ĥth level of Swordsage class from Tome of Battle grants Discipline Focus (insightful strike): Rolls (in addition to any Strength bonus she may have) with any applies her Intelligence bonus (if any) as a bonus on damage 3rd level of Complete Warrior's Swashbuckler class grants Insightful Strike:
